Following last Friday declaration of Mr Ubandoman Joshua Laven by Plateau State Election Appeal Tribunal as winner of Langtang North Local government election, the Chairman elect of the Langtang North Council Ubandoman Laven has called on his state Governor, Barr Simon Lalong of his state to carry out the decision of the Tribunal by swearing him into his office as the duly elected Chairman of the Langtang North..

Mr Laven in an interview with newsmen in Jos on Monday in Jos the state capital said Governor Lalong he knows , has respect for the decision of courts as demonstrated by him in his local government in Langtang North in 2015 on assumption of Office with the swearing in of Chief Dan Dull as the duly elected Local Government council of Langtang North.

Laven noted that if Governor Lalong could keep his promise to the people of his Local government council when he came to campaign for his governorship election that led him to victory in 2015, Governor Lalong would do same in his own case that the election Appeal Tribunal has ruled in his favour .

” Governor Lalong as the Father of the state is one Governor that believes in the rule of law and due process and that was why when the out come of the polls in 2018 didn’t go down well with some of us, he urged every one that disagrees with the declaration of the PLASIEC to go before the election Petition Tribunal to ague out our case which i complied leading to the state Election Appeal Tribunal declaring the true winner of Langtang North Local government election last Friday in Jos”

According to him, the common masses of his people in the Local government council came out overwhelmingly to vote for him in the 2018 Local government polls in the state,promising that now that the court has returned his stolen mandate, he will do everything humanly possible to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of his Local government council of Langtang North.

He added that despite all odds, the people of his state should continue to put their hope on the Judiciary as the hope of the common Man on the Plateau and especially Commended Justice Arum Ashom,Chairman of the Appeal Tribunal 8 hours Judgement for doing justice to his petition.

By this Declaration ,Ubandoman Joshua-Laven of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is now the winner of Langtang North Local Government that was held on Oct. 10, 2018 Local government Polls in the state .

Justice Arum Ashom,Chairman of the Appeal Tribunal, made the declaration in an over 8 hours judgement on the appeal filed before it by Ubandom.

Mr Ubandoma Joshua-Laven, PDP Chairmanship candidate had challenged the declaration of APC’s candidate, Mr. Kparnim Nanloh-Amos, by Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), as winner of Oct. 10, 2018 LG polls in the state.

But Mr. Jovita Binjin led Election Petition Tribunal had, in a six hour joudgement delivered on May 25, dismissed PDP’s only surviving Langtang-North petition for lack of merit.

Not satisfied with that judgement of lower tribunal, PDP and Ubandoma, had approached the Appeal Tribunal and appealed against it and asked the tribunal to declare him winner alleging that he pulled the highest votes of the elections.

Consequently, Ashom, chairman of the appeal tribunal, delivering the judgement at the High Court Premises, said, “the lower tribunal goofed when it dismissed the petition of PDP and Ubandoma on May 25.’’

Accordinging to the appeal tribunal, several mistakes were made by the lower court when taking decisions on some of the exhibits presented before it by all the parties involved.
The Apeal tribunal faulted the lower tribunal for accepting a baseless result hurried presented by PLASIEC after the petitioners had completed their prosecution.

It described that result as worthless when compared with what were compiled at the various polling units as authentic results at the 17 wards of the area.

The tribunal gave the actual resuls for both APC and PDP as 14, 708 and 19, 599 votes respectively.

“With Ubandoma Joshua-Laven of PDP having scored 19, 599 as against 14, 708 votes of his APC counterpart, Mr. Kparnim Nanloh-Amos, he has met the required votes according to the law and is hereby declared winner and returned elected.

“Consequently, PLASIEC is hereby ordered to issue the 1st Appellant, Mr Ubandoma Joshua-Laven of PDP with certificate of return as the duly elected chairman of Langtang North Local Government.

“This is the judgement of the judgment of the election appeal tribunal, ’’ Ashom declared.
Speaking to Journalists shortly after the judgement, MR, Niri Darong, Counsel to the Ubandoma, described the judgementa as a victory to democracy and the people of Langtang North.
