The Honorable Member representing Jos South Constituency in the Plateau State today Tuesday 5th November, 2019 moved a motion for government to look into the non-payment of gratuity (retirement benefits to the State and Local Government Retirees in Plateau State.
The motion which was taken is as stated below:
NOTICE OF MOTION.
A CALL ON THE PLATEAU STATE GOVERNMENT TO URGENTLY LOOK INTO THE ISSUE OF NON-PAYMENT OF GRATUITY (RETIREMENT BENEFITS) TO STATE & LOCAL GOVERNMENT RETIREES.
Retirees are former Civil Servants, who are also called ‘senior citizens’. They are a special category of people who have meritoriously served the State and Country at large, contributed their quota in the growth and development of the State, and have put in most of their productive years in total service to their fatherland and therefore need proper and or special care in their old age by way of full settlement of their benefits or entitlements.
It is imperative to bring to the knowledge of this House the fact that some of those who retired since 2015 were only paid 5% of the total sum of their gratuity, owing largely to corrupt and unhealthy practices of some of the officers vested with the responsibility of the computation and payment of such gratuities, who in most cases would request gratification (bribe) in order to fast track the process of payments.
Now therefore, I call on this House to as a matter of urgency, resolve to call on the State Government to direct the relevant Agencies to pay outstanding benefits of all Retirees of State and Local Government Services within the shortest possible time, while a Special Committee be constituted to investigate the issues of corrupt practices within the State Pension Board.
I so move.
Hon. Gwottson Fom.
Member Representing Jos South Constituency.
