PRESS RELEASE

On behalf of my family and the entire Trust 2019 (Davou Mang Campaign Organisation), I wish to note with great pain the sad commentary of gruesome and mass killings of innocent citizens in and around Rasat, Gana Ropp, Ruku, Soy, Gindi Akwati (Ex-Land), Ngar, Heipang, Dorowa Babuje and Gwol all in Barkin-Ladi LGA andShonong in Riyom LGA where it is reported that over two hundred lives and property worth millions of Naira have been lost and several others injured and displaced due to the unrelenting onslaught of killer herdsmen. What is worrisome is the fact that the killings went on for over 48 hours and no single arrest has been made. Neither has there been any form of relief to the victims of these criminal acts.

In a similar fashion, Irigwe andRon-Kulere Chiefdoms in Bassa and Bokkos LGAs have fallen victim to Fulani attacks that claimed so many lives and property. The truth about these attacks is the fact that they go unchallenged. Is it that all the armed forces are incompetent or compromised? Rumours abound that the action or non action of those responsible to defend the people from these attacks is based on “order from above”. We dare to ask, who is or are those above? We are deeply worried and we demand answers.

 May I use this opportunity to condemn in the strongest possible terms the perpetrators, sponsors and collaborators of these heinous crimes against humanity. The current happenings have further given credence to an earlier call by elder statesman, General T.Y. Danjuma for the people to defend themselves. Resorting to self help is an indication of the failure of the State to perform its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property of its citizens.

While I commiserate with the bereaved families, I call on the Plateau People to unite in the face of terror.

We also call on the Federal and Plateau State Governments to rise up to their responsibilities of securing the lives and property of their citizens. This is the oath of office they swore to. Nothing less is expected.
