Hon. Dan Manjang, Plateau Science and Tech Commissioner Pushes For Quick Punishment to Stem Cyber Crime

Plateau State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dan Manjang, has advocated for quick trial and punishment of those committing cyber crime in order to stem the tide of offences in Nigeria.

The commissioner, who spoke with our correspondent in Abeokuta at the just concluded National Council on Communication Technology (NCCT), explained that if people were punished for various offences quickly, it would serve as deterrent to others.

He said that the best way to take cyber crime off the street was to follow the rules guiding the menace and implement it.

“The menace can be curbed if we apply the rules because there are rules governing cyber crime and the rules should be implemented and the offenders should be punished.

“If people are punished, it will serve as a deterrent to others. Why criminality is on the increase is because people are not been punished,” he said.

He stated that Plateau state had succeeded in coming up with the bill establishing the Plateau Information Technology Development Agency, saying the state governor had already assented to it just as it had become a law.

The commissioner noted that there was nothing anyone could do at this global age without Information and Communication Technology, saying Plateau state was moving with current trends.
