News reaching ViewPointNigeria suggests that at least 7,500 security agents have been drafted and lined up to provide security at the May 29th handover in Plateau.

The chairman of the Publicity and Documentation sub-committee of the Transition Planning Committee, Pastor Yiljap Abraham disclosed this Thursday in Jos, during a press briefing.

Abraham Yiljap (who is also the current Commissioner for Tourism), said the need to step up security in the state became necessary in order to ensure that the transition ceremony is conducted in a safe and acceptable manner.

Speaking, he said “we are planning the deployment of mobile patrol units, the manning of checkpoints, surveillance of wide areas, including the expansion of the prevailing check points within the city of Jos and environs.”

Furthermore more, he confirmed that immediately the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the All Progressives Congress candidate, Barr. Simon Lalong as winner of the April 11 governorship poll, Governor Jonah Jang set up a 12-member planning committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Shedrack Best to commence processes for the smooth handover.

He also confirmed that in the same vein, the incoming APC administration setup a 12-man transition committee headed by deputy governor-elect, Professor  Sunny Tyoden to work with Governor Jang’s committee and oversee processes from the APC side of things. He noted that the two camps have since been working harmoniously to ensure the success of the transition.

He said as part of the final activities of the Jang administration, prayers would be held at the Jos Central Mosque today and  would be followed by a thanksgiving service on Sunday, 24  at the Government House Chapel, Rayfield.

He also disclosed that as part of plans to wrap up things for the current administration, Governor Jang undertake a process of inaugurating projects (from Monday to Thursday 28th), ahead of the handover date on friday 29th May 2015 at the Rwang Pam township stadium.
