“Hackjos 2016” the much publicized ICT challenge ran by nHub drew to a close on 4th November 2016 at Crest Hotel, Jos, to critical acclaim by both critics and well-wishers. The event which headlines a software/mobile apps competition is designed to foster interest among young people in software industry.

Hackjos which is in its third season/year has facilitated the discovery of young techies who were hitherto unknown, but are now being incubated and nurtured into mature software development experts. In addition to the hackathon, was a one day conference themed: ‘How ready is Nigeria for the internet of things (IOT)?’.  After a grueling 4 days, Team Bradsa emerged winner in the keen contested competition.

Hackjos 2016 consisted 15 teams, each with a minimum of three developers/ ‘hackathoners’. They were pitted against each other for four days in a marathon of wit, entrepreneurship and mental fitness to develop app-solutions under the framework of Nigeria’s readiness for IOT.

The teams were: Team Kuce, Team Dreadlock, Team Flair, Team Braniac, Team Bradsa, Team Ivory, Team Binary, Team Gist Hub, Team Cannon, Team Uplift, Team Lex, Team Smart, Team Nox, Team Air and Team Egrek.

Team Bradsa were adjudged winners based on their clever/innovative idea – providing an avenue for seeing weather reports, time, incoming mails, check maps, read news feed and many more without having to look down on our phones or turn on the computer. The smart mirror is a deal maker on how we progressively use our technology. The team was led by Jennifer Kwentoh with Charles Amos Ubokulom and Israel Obiagba as team members.

The winner gets a package that includes free tech support from nHub and Qitech Technologies, Cash prizes, five year free hosting plan from Broaddrive, 10,000 Naira worth of credit on Gigalayer for any of their services and souvenirs, 30,000 Naira and Tshirts from Prosper a Unicodedeveloper full sponsorship to attend West Africa Convergence Conference in Lagos where each team member will be presented a laptop.

Bluewhales Micro Finance Bank provided a Microwave oven for the best female developer. The prize was scooped by Ms. Jennifer Kwentoh of Team Bradsa.

According to Daser David, the head of the team behind #HackJos2016 that the competition has come to stay and that 2017 edition will be bigger than 2015 and 2016 put together.

“This is just one amongst the many initiatives by nHub that will further create a Vibrant Tech Ecosystem in Northern part of the Country and Nigeria at large,” he said.
