UPDATE ON RECENT ARMED INVASION ON PLATEAU COMMUNITY

Information has it that there was an attack in Njarvo-Tergu community of Irigwe chiefdom in Bassa LGA of Plateau State at about 10:00pm of May 28th, 2020 by unidentified gunmen. As a result Five persons have been confirmed dead arising from the armed invasion.

Responding to an interview by ECCVN team that visited the scene of the incident,
Mr. Ishaya Musa, the community leader (Mai’angua) condemned the onslaught, saying that “our people have been under a long militias’ attack unabatedly.

The one meted out at an Indomie shop last night claimed 5 innocent lives who are-
1. Asabe Samuel, 43 years,

  1. Audu Amadu, 48 years
  2. Shedrack Joe, 25 years
  3. Gideon Tunku, , 67 years
  4. Iba Adi, 35 years.”

As to who were the perpetrators, he said, “vigilante arrested 10 non-natives in connection with the attack, and have been handed over to security agents.” He also said that the suspects were in a J5 Bus claiming to be going from Shendam LGA to Farin-Gada of Jos North LGA which couldn’t have been possible due to unconnectivity of the roads.

It’s additionally gathered that shortly after the attack, the J5 Bus passed with no one except the driver, but returned in a short while with people picked between the affected community and its neighborhood at that hour.

The aforementioned scenarios gave rise to high suspicion that those arrested had a hand in unfortunate development as narrated by the community leader.

In another response, Hon. Tiga Chayi, councillor representing Tahu Ward at legislative arm of Bassa LGA of Plateau State said, “… I was passing by in my car, and heard rapid gunfire targeting at me… I accelerated and miraculously escaped to Kent Academy,… my car’s tyre was depleted by gunshot but I wasn’t touched…” He also recalled the ceaseless armed invasions unleashed by the perpetrators which he had escaped twice. The legislator has been saddened by the modus operandi of the attacker aiming at ethnic cleansing of Irigwe ethnic nationality otherwise there wouldn’t have been the unwarranted terror on innocent lives daily witnessed.

Security are being urged to intensify effort towards countering distressed situations of this nature as their response in the recent attack was less than expectations, expressed by the affected community.
