GROUP OF PARTY MEMBERS SUE APC OVER CONGRESS IRREGULARITIES
22nd June, 2018
A group of aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has sued the leadership of the APC over the undemocratic conduct of the recent Congresses in the State.
The group alleged that party faithful who purchased nomination forms to contest for various positions from Wards, Local Government and State levels were denied participation in the Congress.
Filing the case through their lawyer at the High Court of Justice in Jos, the group lamented the way and manner Governor Simon Bako Lalong and his co-travellers manipulated the conduct of the Congresses in the state, which was against the Congress guidelines and constitution of the APC. The group calls on the National Leader of the Party Bola Tinubu and President Muhammadu Buhari to come to their aid in order to save the party from total collapse, in Plateau State.
One of the party members, Hon Belime, who contested for the position of Local Government Chairman in Pankshin, lamented how Mr. Latep Dabang manipulated the Congresses in the State and prayed the State High Court to ensure justice in order to sustain democracy in Nigeria.
“We are calling on the State judiciary to look into the matter and bring Justice to us. We are saddened at how the state Governor who was elected through a democratic process would manipulate the conduct of his party Congresses. We are sad at how Governor Lalong imposed his friends as party excos”. He said.
Belime explained,, “we are card carrying members as we purchased our nomination forms and receipt’s were issued to us in line with the party guidelines, but all those people Governor Lalong imposed as party excos didn’t purchase forms but were given through Mr. Latep Dabang who used taxpayers money and obtained nomination forms for them. We were told by the Congress Appeal Committee that both Ward and Local Government Congresses were cancelled and fresh election would be conducted, but for over one month now nobody has called us for election “.
The affected Local Government Areas are: Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Jos East, Jos South, Kanam, Bokkos, Pankshin, Kanke, Langtang South, Quanpan, Shendam, Mangu, and Wase. It was only in Jos North and Langtang North that free and Fair Congresses were allowed.
The case has been fixed on 27th June, 2018 for hearing.
