GROUP DONATES RELIEF MATERIALS TO VICTIMS OF FLOODS AND HAILSTORM IN MANGU, PLATEAU STATE

Respite came the way of victims of hailstorm and flood disasters in Kombun and Panyam Districts, respectively, of Mangu LGA, Plateau State on Sunday, the 22nd of September, 2019 as a good-spirited group “HELP MANGU DISASTER VICTIMS” paid these communities a humanitarian visit. According to the Convener of the group, Engr. Mangna Yusuf Wamyil, the “Help Mangu Disaster Victims” group was one born out of the need to support needy communities which were sometimes in early August, 2019 affected by the dual disasters of hailstorms and floods at Kombun and Panyam districts respectively.

He went on to narrate that the efforts at distributing relief were not an end in themselves, as the ultimate objective was to get the Government, at all levels to first recognise and then come to the aid of these affected farmers totalling almost four hundred and thirty (430), who will not be harvesting any produce from the various farms where they have toiled, laboured and invested resources throughout the course of the 2019 farming season.

While berating the seeming conspiracy of silence by relevant stakeholders, Mr. Wamyil reiterated the need to see tangible outputs specifically from agencies like NEMA, SEMA, and the newly created Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management to the good people of these communities.

In their various messages of goodwill, the councillors representing their respective districts took turns to appreciate the members of this group, whom they were also a part of and helped to promote, and called on citizens of these districts and the Mangu Local Government Area to rise up and emulate the noble gestures as displayed by members of this group, who did not only show concerns in words alone, but followed up to ensure that palliative measures were enjoyed by the members of their respective wards/districts.

In their separate remarks, the District Heads of Kombun and Panyam, Da Mishkaham Tetmut Audu Gambo and Mishkaham (Engr.) Aminu Derwam (respectively) were both thankful on behalf of their individual Districts and Traditional Council members to the “Help Mangu Disaster Victims” group for the show of love and concern towards their people, especially at this trying times that they needed support from all available avenues towards ameliorating the loss of agricultural produce suffered by their communities. While bestowing on the group members royal blessings of goodwill, they urged the members of the group to continue on this noble path, noting that it is not he/she who has the largest, but such that give their little in good faith that stand blessed in society, therefore remaining thankful to all the contributors in cash or in kind.

The separate communities were thereafter given relief materials ranging from bags and/or cartons of maize, rice, fertilizers, seasoning, salt, etc., which were procured by funds generated and distributed by the group.
