The Governor of Plateau State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to reviving key economic and public service institutions across the state as part of a broader agenda to stimulate development, create jobs, and enhance revenue generation.
The Governor made this known while commissioning a series of completed projects during the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations. He emphasized plans to resuscitate strategic institutions such as the Agricultural Services and Training Centre (ASTC), Panyam Fish Farm, Hill Station Hotel, Jos International Breweries (JIB), and Plateau Hotel. According to him, restoring these facilities from dormancy will significantly boost the state’s economic outlook, reduce unemployment and crime rates, and improve internally generated revenue.
The commissioned projects include Fifteen additional Metro Buses launched at the Old Government House, Rayfield; A new Main Medical Laboratory Complex, Pediatric Ward, and Office Complex at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos; Utonkon Bridge and adjoining roads connecting Utonkon to Abattoir Road; A one-storey administrative block and the refurbished Joshua Dariye Hall at Plateau State Polytechnic, Jos Campus and Dachom Road to Namua Junction at Abattoir, Jos.
While addressing the public, the Governor stated that the projects were designed to meet the critical needs of the people in areas such as health, transportation, and education, while also addressing infrastructural deficits. He reaffirmed that his administration remains focused on delivering impactful projects and policies that will transform Plateau State and uplift its citizens.
In a strategic move to boost the state’s economic potential, the Governor also disclosed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for the upgrade of the Jos Airport in Heipang into an International Cargo Terminal. He noted that this upgrade will further open the state to international commerce and investment.
Furthermore, the Governor announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured the inclusion of the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Road as one of his four legacy projects, thereby prioritizing its development under federal infrastructure plans.
He also revealed that plans are underway to upgrade the Plateau State Polytechnic in Barkin Ladi into a full-fledged University of Science and Technology, in line with his administration’s vision for educational and technological advancement.
Top government officials, including the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Davou Gyang Jatau; General Manager, Plateau Express Service, Samuel Gwott; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Ba’amlong; Chief Medical Director, Prof. Christopher Yilgwan; Acting Rector of Plateau State Polytechnic, Dr. Clement Chirman; Commissioner for Works, Dr. Joshua Laven; and Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, were all present and commended the Governor for his people-centered leadership, inclusive governance and attracting projects that have direct benefits to the Citizens.
