The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of one of Nigeria’s foremost nationalist and elder statesman, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, who died at the age of 96.
In a condolence message, Governor Mutfwang extended his sympathies to Pa Adebanjo’s immediate family, the Afenifere nation, and all those mourning the loss of the distinguished icon. He described him as a pillar of wisdom, an exemplary leader, a father figure, and a role model to numerous Nigerians.
He noted that Pa Ayo Adebanjo lived a profoundly impactful life, marked by steadfast commitment to justice, fairness, and national unity. The Governor added that the late Adebanjo’s selfless dedication to the ideals of democracy, good governance, and the fight for a just and equitable Nigeria earned him a place of honor in the country’s history.
“I received with profound grief the devastating news of the passing of a revered Nigerian political leader whose impact transcended the South-West and extended across Nigeria and beyond. His invaluable contributions to national discourse reshaped the political landscape and strengthened national unity. Those who crossed paths with Baba Adebanjo drew from his boundless wisdom and cherished democratic principles, which he relentlessly championed.”
Governor Mutfwang emphasized that Pa Adebanjo’s legacy of justice, fairness, and compassion will continue to shine brightly, serving as an enduring inspiration for future generations.
He noted that from his role as Organizing Secretary of the Action Group in the First Republic to his leadership in the Unity Party of Nigeria during the Second Republic, and later as a national patriot and statesman, he remained a steadfast advocate for democratic ideals and a more inclusive Nigeria.
The Governor paid glowing tribute to Pa Adebanjo’s enduring legacy, highlighting his resolute commitment to excellence and service. He acknowledged that his influence and advocacy transcended Nigeria’s borders, thereby establishing his status as a global symbol of integrity and statesmanship.
