The 10th edition of the Jos National Trade Fair has officially commenced, with Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo, declaring the event open at a grand ceremony held at the Jos Polo Field. The trade fair, a flagship economic event in Plateau State, brings together entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders, and stakeholders to explore trade, commerce, and investment opportunities.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Governor Piyo reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to driving economic transformation through innovation, technology, and MSME empowerment. She highlighted that this year’s theme, “Driving Innovation and Technology to Unlock the Hidden Potential of MSMEs”, aligns with Governor Mutfwang’s vision for economic diversification, industrialization, and private-sector development.
She outlined several key initiatives the government has undertaken to support businesses and create a conducive environment for investment, including: Ease of Doing Business Committee – to eliminate bureaucratic barriers and simplify business registration and operations. SME Council – to provide strategic support and mentorship for small businesses. Revitalization of the Plateau Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA) – to enhance financial access for entrepreneurs. Investment in Agriculture and Agro-Allied Industries – to leverage Plateau’s natural resources for economic growth. Infrastructure Development – particularly in road networks, to improve trade, transportation, and market access. Security Enhancements – ensuring a safe and stable business environment.
According to the Deputy Governor, Plateau State is on the path to becoming a major commercial hub and remains open for business, investment, and economic partnerships.
Also speaking at the event, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring Plateau’s economic growth through legislative efforts. He noted that the return of the Jos National Trade Fair was a strong indication that peace has been restored in the state, creating a stable environment for commerce, investment, and industrial development.
In his remarks, Elder Bulus Dareng, President of the Plateau Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (PLACCIMA), expressed pride in the Jos Trade Fair’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s top three trade fairs, alongside Lagos and Abuja.
He emphasized the need for a permanent trade fair site, noting that despite the event’s success over the years, it still lacks a dedicated, well-structured location. He called on the government to take concrete steps toward securing and developing a permanent exhibition venue, which would enhance Plateau’s position as a national business hub.
The Managing Director/CEO of Anista Marketing and Events Ltd, Bolcit Barshep Amakiri, described the Jos National Trade Fair as more than just an exhibition; it is a platform for economic collaboration, cultural exchange, and technological advancement.
She emphasized that this year’s event aims to: Strengthen business-to-business (B2B) partnerships, Promote innovation and digital entrepreneurship, Attract investors to Plateau’s booming sectors, including ICT, agriculture, tourism, and mining, Create job opportunities and empower young entrepreneurs.
She also noted that the fair has gained international recognition, with foreign exhibitors participating, underscoring Plateau’s potential as an attractive investment destination.
