Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has joined millions across the globe in celebrating men on Father’s Day, extending warm felicitations and heartfelt appreciation for their steadfast commitment to family and society.
Speaking as the Guest Preacher at St. James’ Church, Asokoro, in the Diocese of Abuja (Anglican Communion), Governor Mutfwang took his reading from Proverbs 13:12 which says “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life”, and Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
He paid glowing tribute to the courage, resilience, and resolute love of fathers who continue to stand as pillars of strength in their homes and communities. He emphasized the weighty responsibility that fathers bear, often silently, and called on them to connect with Christ, “the Author and Finisher of our faith,” in whom alone they can find true rest and renewal.
“Fatherhood is a journey of many sides,” the Governor said. “It is full of joy, but also filled with unseen burdens, emotional strain, and spiritual battles. Many men are emotionally displaced and suffering in silence because society has conditioned them to be strong and never show vulnerability. But strength is found in surrendering to God and carrying His yoke, for only then will they find rest for their souls.”
He acknowledged the commendable strides made by men in condemning violence against women and championing their protection but quickly pointed out that the plight of men is often ignored. “While violence against women has rightly received condemnation from all sectors of society, we must not overlook the quiet anguish that many men endure daily. They too face emotional and psychological challenges but are often left without support.”
Governor Mutfwang urged the Church and society at large to cultivate a culture of empathy, appreciation, and open dialogue, encouraging men to speak out and seek help when overwhelmed. He also underscored the need to celebrate and affirm the role of fathers more intentionally.
“I am happy to be here on this special occasion to celebrate the fathers. I thank God for the strength, wisdom, and sacrifices you continue to make. You are the anchors of many homes, and when appreciated, you do even more.”
The Governor prayed for divine intervention in the lives of fathers, expressing hope that “good news will break upon someone’s heart today,” and calling for grace, wisdom, and guidance from God as fathers continue to serve as the light and leaders of their homes.
On behalf of the government and the good people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang congratulated all fathers and male role models, reaffirming his admiration for their strength and encouraging them to embrace their spiritual calling in Christ to overcome life’s many burdens. He was accompanied by the Distinguished Senator, AVM Napoleon Bali retired and Plateau State Abuja Liaison Directorates.
