Gov. Mutfwang Engages End Bad Governance Protesters, Assures of His Administration’s Commitment to Address Economic Challenges

The Governor of Plateau State on Saturday 10th August, 2024 which is the last Day of the Nationwide End Bad Governance Protest has engaged the Protesters under the auspices of Coalition for Jos End Bad Governance Protest 2024 with an assurance of working assiduously to address the economic hardships being faced by the Citizens of the State.
He said his government is working round the clock to attract investments to the State which he said has the propensity of stimulating economic prosperity.

An empathic Gov. Mutfwang said he also feel your pains and frustrated by the challenges faced by the Citizens.
“We are saddled with the responsibility to find solutions to the numerous times.
The time is now to change the story of Nigeria away from the heightened divide, poverty and corrupted that characterised the Nation from 2015 to 2023″
He said protest is a right recognised by the Nation’s Constitution and so is freedom of association which according to him should be done without any form of violence or destruction of lives and property.
He commended the Citizens for their peaceful disposition during the protest and said curfew was put in place following intelligence information that miscreants were brought into the State to put it to the trajectory of violence.
“Plateau remains one of the most attractive State even with the deliberate attempts to damage the image of the State, we will not allow crisis merchants destroy our cherished State” he said.

According to him, his administration will continue to provided space for Citizens’ engagement to enhance good governance.
He said government has halted the demolition of illegal structures to get spaces to build community markets for economic prosperity of the Citizens saying the government has engaged private Investors to build markets across the State.
In his effort to address some of the demands made by the Protesters, he said government will be engaging the Youth leaders across the State to map out economic blueprint with biases to the youths.
He further stated that government is committed to harnessed the agricultural and tourism potentials of the State for the prosperity of the State.

The Governor also averred that Food production is the key driver of the economy of the State hence the need to pursue food security to address food inflation which has been skyrocketing. He said his administration has priority agriculture and for that 200 trucks of Fertilizer were procured and distributed to farmers to boost yield and enhance food security in the State.
To tackle insecurity, he said the State government has invested massively in technology. The Government he said distributed purpose-built Motorcycles to security agencies to enable function effectively in challenging terrains to address security challenges.
He clarified that government distributed all palliatives provided by the Federal Government responsibly and is working to procure more for the People.

Earlier in his remarks, the Plateau State Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Bashir Datti lauded the Protesters for embracing the path of dialogue which according to him demonstrates wisdom and leadership.
He said the Mutfwang’s adminstration is committed to listening, engaging and acting upon the concerns.

Spokesperson of the Group, Sam Odeh commended Gov. Mutfwang for providing a platform for dialogue and handed over their demands to the State and Federal Government.

The demands that requires State government attention include reduction in cost of governance, reversal to old electricity tariffs and reduction of School fees of public institutions.
Others are disclose clear plans on how the Government intend to address economic hardships being faced, ensure transparency in the running of Government among others.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Mobilization and Engagement, Mr. Hitler Pwajok appreciated the Youths for not towing the path of violence and for making sure that miscreants were not allowed to hijack the peaceful protest.
He also commended security agencies for displaying high sense of professionalism and discipline throughout the period of the protest.

The meeting was attended by Heads of security agencies in the State, top Government functionaries and other critical Stakeholders.
