The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has stated that his decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is a strategic realignment anchored on the ideals of unity, peace, and prosperity as envisioned by the founding fathers of Plateau State.
Governor Mutfwang disclosed this on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, during his grand reception into the APC at the Jos Polo Field, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to the Governor, his decision followed intense consultations and persuasion from key National Leaders, including the President, Vice President, Senate President, and Speaker of the House of Representatives. He noted that Plateau’s founding fathers envisioned a state where citizens are united by a shared purpose, irrespective of religious, ethnic, or political differences.
He explained that his move to the APC is aimed at adding value to governance and repositioning Plateau State for sustainable growth and prosperity, in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to economic reforms and improved welfare for Nigerians.
Governor Mutfwang expressed confidence in the President’s leadership and assured that Plateau State would reciprocate with overwhelming electoral support in the 2027 general elections.
The Governor further appreciated the people of Plateau State for the trust and support accorded him since assuming office in 2023, assuring them that he would not betray their confidence. He pledged to usher in an era of peace, unity, and prosperity across the state.
In his remarks, Nigeria’s Vice President commended Governor Mutfwang for what he described as a wise and courageous decision, noting that the move would strengthen unity, foster progress, and enhance collaboration between the state and the federal government.
The Vice President acknowledged the Governor’s commitment to finding lasting peace in Plateau State and described the state as a producer of great leaders who have contributed significantly to national development. He announced that the construction of the Jos–Akwanga Road would commence within three weeks and revealed plans for the engagement of 1,000 youths as forest Guards, assuring residents of unprecedented development in the state.
The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio on his part welcomed Governor Mutfwang into the APC, expressing optimism that the defection would usher in peace and accelerated development in Plateau State.
Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, described the Governor’s decision as timely and wise, urging party leaders and members to shun divisive tendencies and work together for the collective good.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, expressed satisfaction with the Governor’s decision, stating that it would enhance development in Plateau State and strengthen support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the event, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, said the political realignment being witnessed in Plateau State would translate into massive development and herald a new era for both the state and the nation.
The event attracted top political actors from across Nigeria, including serving governors, members of the National and State Assemblies, members of the Plateau State Executive Council, local government chairmen, party leaders, and supporters from across the State.
