GOC 3 Division Reiterates Significance of Host Community Empowerment, Donated Support to Complete Bassa Skills Acquisition Centre

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army (NA) and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to empowering the host communities of 3 Division barracks. He made this declaration today 21 October 2023, while inspecting Bassa community Skills Acquisition and Event Center in Jebbu Bassa, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The GOC while making a generous donation highlighted the importance of empowering the youth as a means to reduce criminality and social vices, such as drug addiction, cultism. By investing in the development of skills, the GOC said, the youth will have enhanced prospects for a better future and will be less susceptible to engaging in criminal activities or falling prey to drug addiction.

Speaking further, Major General AE Abubakar expressed his deep appreciation for the host communities’ continuous support and cooperation with the Nigerian Army. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by the communities in providing a safe and secure environment for the personnel and their families residing in the barracks. He emphasized that empowering the host communities was a way of reciprocating their goodwill and fostering a symbiotic relationship. He urged other stakeholders, including local government bodies, philanthropic organizations, and private sector entities, to join hands in supporting initiatives aimed at empowering the youth and uplifting the host communities.

In his vote of thanks on behalf of the community, the President Bachea Development Association, Mr Jacob Agal Adingbu appreciated the GOC/Commander OPSH for his quick response to the request of the community. He pledged to judiciously use the resources donated for its purpose. The president further reiterated the commitment of the Bassa community to peaceful and secured environment devoid of social vices.

The Bassa community skills acquisition center, located in close proximity to Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Rukuba, Jos aims to equip young individuals with vocational skills that will enhance their employability and create avenues for self-sustainability. The facility when completed will provide comprehensive training programs and resources to the youth. The center will offer courses in various vocational disciplines, including carpentry, tailoring, welding, computer skills, and entrepreneurship.
