In a strategic move to foster communal harmony and address security challenges, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), Major General Folusho Oyinlola, engaged with the leadership of the Bache Youth Movement from Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. The meeting took place during a courtesy visit to Headquarters 3 Division in Jos on Friday 20 June 25.
General Oyinlola emphasized the importance of youth unity in combating criminality and promoting peace. He urged the Bache Youth Movement to lead efforts in building resilient communities through cooperation and constructive engagement.
Led by its President, Comrade Dauda Aku, the youth delegation sought to strengthen collaboration with the military in promoting peace and addressing security concerns. Comrade Aku congratulated the GOC on his appointment and reiterated the group’s commitment to youth development and sustainable initiatives.
Reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s support, General Oyinlola expressed readiness to partner with youth groups in implementing peace-building initiatives. He pledged the provision of training and logistical support to ensure such efforts are effective and enduring.
The GOC also warned against illegal mining, drug abuse, and other vices contributing to school dropouts and social instability. He urged the youths to prioritize education and resist manipulation by individuals who exploit them for criminal purposes. “Refuse to be pawns in someone else’s scheme,” he stated. “Wherever you go, be a beacon of hope and model responsible citizenship.”
The interaction reflects the 3 Division’s ongoing commitment to strengthening civil-military relations. It also highlights the potential of youth involvement in community-driven peacebuilding. Highlights of the visit included the presentation of souvenirs, signing of the visitors’ book, and a group photograph.
