The Nigerian Army has described career planning as a topic of significant and paramount importance saying it is one that transcends the progression of military personnel to the summit of their chosen profession.

This was made known by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation Safe Haven, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar in his opening remarks at the training of Officers organized by the Army Headquarters at the Headquarters 3 Division Auditorium Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos, Plateau State.
He disclosed that career planning gives the personnel of the Nigerian Army ample opportunity to attain balance and career growth while assuring optimal performance consistent with the needs of the Nigerian Army.
“Essentially, career planning for Nigerian Army Officers implies the efficient management of manpower from their dates of commission to their effective dates of disengagement from the service” he hinted.
He further stated that the attainment of excellence in the Nigerian Army will require the projection of Officers based on their performance in all aspects of their career including courses, proficiency as well as their conduct.

He emphasized that in the Nigerian Army, an Officer’s success in his/her career is more of a function of the individual’s deliberate effort and striving for excellence. He also stated that the Nigerian Army ensures the existence of an enabling environment as standard that will facilitate the career enhancement of the Officers. He reminded the officers of the significant roles they have to play in their career progression by attending and passing requisite courses, passing promotional examinations amongst other requirements of career planning which is the cardinal focus of the seminar being organized for to them.
He said “the lecture tends to afford the opportunity for you participants to ask salient questions and clarify grey areas impacting on your career planning and progression. This will therefore assist you in planning your respective careers toward attainment of the zenith of your career. It will further foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of career progression through the engaging discussion which I hope will follow, case studies and practical examples”

He disclosed that the sensitisation is aimed at enlightening the officers of the 3 Division Jos and Operation Safe Haven on the intricacies and strategy to attaining a fulfilling career in the Nigerian Army.

Facilitator of the training and Military Secretary (Army) Headquarters, Major General Folusho Oyinlola stressed that discipline and character are critical to the career progression of the Officers of the Nigerian Army.
He disclosed that the essence of his visit is to sensitise the Officers on how to plan their career well from their entry into the Military to their disengagement. He charged them to display discipline and be up and doing throughout their stay in the Nigerian Army.
