GOC 3 Division, Maj. Gen. Abubakar Says Discipline, Leadership Qualities and Teamwork Key to Tackling Security Threats

It was a moment of joy and scintillating celebrations for troops who participated and performed gallantly at the one-week 3 Division Corporal and Below Competition 2024 as it ended with the presentation of gifts to individuals and formations at the 3 Division Physical Training Ground, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos, the Plateau state capital.

Delivering his Closing remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), Major General AE Abubakar highlighted the exceptional display of discipline, endurance, Esprit De corps, teamwork and leadership qualities exhibited by the participants. He emphasized that the competition was organized to enhance the capacity of the troops in addressing emerging security challenges, with a focus on continued training to ensure their effectiveness.

The GOC/Commander OPSH who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Headquarters 3 Division, Brigadier General AU Gumel commended the soldiers for their performance and challenged them to leverage the skills acquired during the competition to effectively address any security threat that may arise. He further emphasized the importance of timely response to emerging threat while discharging their Constitutional roles in a joint environment with other security agencies, in line with the Chief of Army Staff Command Philosophy.

General Abubakar also revealed that the competition primarily focused more on operational training to improve the combat readiness of the troops, enhance their physical fitness, marksmanship skills, Combat Swimming, proficiency, obstacles crossing techniques and endurance across various terrains. He charged the participants to cherish the traditions of Sportsmanship, Cooperation and resilience in their subsequent Courses, Operations and future deployments.
In his vote of thanks, the representative of the Commander 3 Division Garrison, Lt Col AJ Hammadu commended the participants for their discipline and professional conducts through the competition. He applauded the support and guidance of the GOC/Commander OPSH that led to the successful hosting of the competition.

Overall, 3 Division Garrison emerged the Champion while 6 Brigade Jalingo and 43 Engineers Brigade Jos took the second and third position respectively.
Highlights of the event were the presentation of awards and trophies to individuals and formations as well as group photograph.
