The Gbong Gwom Jos, President Jos Joint Traditional Council and Chairman, Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs and the Grand Patron of all Berom Organizations, His Royal Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba CON being accompanied by BeDagwom Rwey and BeGwom Rwey today performed the Commissioning and inspection of two blocks of 5 Classrooms each at BECO Comprehensive High School Kwi, Riyom LGA which were renovated and furnished by Wunato Besa Socioeconomic Group and Berom Community in Northern America (BCNA).
Speaking at the occasion, the Paramount Ruler underscored the importance of education and appreciated the illustrious Sons and Daughters who undertook the projects which he described as laudable.
He urged the Berom Nation to pursue purposive unity and contribute immensely to the transformation of the citadel of learning as well as the develop of the State and Nation at large.
The Royal Father said the drive is to see massive infrastructural development and upgrade of the School to a College of Education in the nearest future.
He called on the Citizens to be security conscious and adhere strictly to all COVID-19 Protocols.
Chairman of Wunato Besa, Da Austin Pam Dalyop hinted that as a group, they were moved to intervened after assessing the deplorable condition of the School and knowing the importance of education to Nation building.
Da Austin said “the collapse of a nation begins with the falling of its educational system”
He went further to stress that they were motivated to renovate the structures to give the young ones a conducive Teaching/Learning environment.
“We therefore decided to commit resources to renovate the whole block containing 5 classrooms. The works included reroofing the block, fixing of pvc ceiling, fixing of broken windows and doors, provision of terrazzo tiles, construction of walkway from the Principal’s office to the renovated block, replacing blackboards with whiteboards and painting the entire block. We have also supplied packets of white Boards markers and cleaners” he said.
He said the group undertook the project as its 2020 intervention and has other plans for 2021 which include; Renovation of the roof of the laboratory which has good internal facilities, extension of electricity to the college premises and the resuscitation of the water scheme of the school to provide potable water in the college for students and staff.
He commended the House of Representatives Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency for the infrastructural projects he is undertaking which will have significant impact to the School.
Berom Educational and Cultural Organisation President who was represented by his Deputy, Da CSP Yusuf Loksi VwosDung (Rtr) commended the Wunato Besa and Berom Community in North America for the projects being commissioned as well as the BECO University of Jos Chapter, other groups and individuals who he said have done excellently well in contributing to sustaining the School.
He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Gbong Gwom Jos for his contributions in the area of renovation, furnishing and provision of instructional materials which he said remains the highest as an individual.
He called on Berom illustrious Sons and Daughters to intervene in any area they deem fit to transform the School.
The Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Dr. Simon Mwadkwon in his remark said he is challenged by the intervention of the two Berom Groups to do more than the two blocks of three classrooms each and staff rooms which he is executing in the School.
He said he will commit part of his yearly constituency projects to infrastructural development of the School.
He said education is key and any serious Nation will invest hugely to it.
He commended the Executives of BECO for being visionary and for providing credible & pragmatic leadership.
In their separate remarks, Hon. Mafeng Gwallson Chairman Riyom LGC, Hon. Dan Manjang Plateau State Information and Communication Commissioner, Hon. Jock Alamba Chairman B/Ladi LGC, Justice Stephen Pam Tanko of Federal High Court Jalingo, Rep. Dachung Bagos Member Jos South/Jos East Fed. Constituency and Da Dr. Jonah Madugu the Commissioner Federal Civil Service Commission for Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau States all lauded the initiative of Wunato Besa & BCNA saying they will also make their contributions to the transformation of the School in order to regain its lost glory.
