Gbong Gwom Jos Consoles Tor Tiv Over Benue Killings

The Gbong Gwom Jos, Dr. Jacob Gyang Buba yesterday paid a condolence visit on Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse of Benue State following gruesome murder of over 72 people by suspected Fulani herdsmen on New Year day.

The monarch, who is the Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs, whose condolence message was delivered to the Tor Tiv by Da Gwom Rwey of Barkin Ladi, Da Edward Bot, and Da Gwom Rwey of Vwang, Da Gyang Balak expressed heartfelt condolences to the Tor Tiv and the entire people of Benue State over what he described as dastardly act of man inhumanity to man.

The Gbong Gwom stated that although similar calamities had befallen his domain and other communities in the country, insisted that the intensity of the perpetrators in the Benue State incidence was beyond imagination.

According to the paramount ruler, “It is incumbent on us to commiserate with each other and to continue to focus on charting a course that will restore peace and communal interrelationship for the progress of Nigeria.”

He offered prayer to the Almighty God to console those, who lost their loved ones and grant the souls of the departed eternal rest.

While responding, the Tor Tiv expressed gratitude over what he described as “the show of love and brotherliness” displayed by the Plateau Council of Chiefs under the leadership of the Gbon Gwom at the most trying moment of the Tiv nation.

The monarch said he felt consoled by the visit, especially by the same people who had suffered the same fate in the past.

Ayatse said it is saddening to observe government’s nonchalant and proactive steps to tame the tide of unprovoked killings by Fulani herdsmen, pointing out that the mission of the invaders is to overrun the Benue valley and occupy the land for Islamic agenda.
