As Reps direct for budgetary provisions for FCE Pankshin ,others

By Golok Nanmwa, Jos

Member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, has come hard on the Federal Ministry of Education for flagrant disregard for laws duly enacted by the National Assembly, which were assented to by the President, enrolled by the Supreme Court and gazetted by the Federal Government Printers, in fulfilment of all law making processes recognized by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

Our correspondent reports that in a motion moved at plenary on Wednesday December 7, 2022, Gagdi decried the failure of the Federal Ministry of Education to capture the three newly created Universities of Education in its 2023 appropriation, but instead made budgetary provisions for the three institutions with their previous status as Federal Colleges of Education.

A statement signed by Gagdi strategic media team made available to newsmen in Jos reads that You will recall that the National Assembly had passed Federal Universities of Education, Pankshin, Ondo and Kontagora Establishment Bills in 2021, which were signed into law by Mr. President earlier in the year, enrolled by the Supreme Court and gazetted by Federal Government Printers, to make them fully recognized as laws of the federation.

The visibly furious lawmaker chided the Federal Ministry of Education for making budgetary provisions for Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, which has no legal backing, but failed to recognize the three federal Universities of Education that have the full backing of the law.

Gagdi moved for the House to mandate the Committee on Appropriation to substitute the budgetary provisions for the three Federal Colleges of Education, as captured in the ministry’s budget with codes: 0517019009; 0517019013 and 0517019015, to suit their legal status as Federal Universities of Education.

Gagdi also moved that the House Committee on Appropriation provide adequate funding for all other educational institutions enacted by the National Assembly, including the National Hydrographic Agency Act, 2021.

The statement further reads that the House approved all the prayers of the motion.
