CONTINUOUS ATTACKS/KILLINGS IN BASSA, BARKIN LADI, BOKKOS AND RIYOM LGAs IN PLATEAU STATE
CALL FOR STATE POLICE
We are saddened by the continuous spate of attacks, wanton killings and destruction of property ongoing in Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos and Riyom LGAs in Plateau State.

These unprovoked attacks and killings are inhuman, wicked, irrational and barbaric.
We are hereby condemning such in the strongest possible terms.

In Barkin Ladi LGA, a man was attacked and killed in cold blood last week.

Three (3) natives of Irigwe Nation in Bassa LGA were killed while coming back from their economic activities on Monday 22nd January, 2018

In Bokkos LGA, three persons were killed in Daffo yesterday Wednesday 24th January, 2018 while many houses were set ablaze.

In Riyom LGA, one person who was attacked along Sho-Jol Road in December, 2017 died from the injuries he sustained from the attack while two persons sustained various injuries from attacks last week and yesterday. One in his farm and the other while going home from Wereng-Tashek yesterday. Two of the alleged killers were apprehended and are with the Operation Safe Haven Sector Command in Riyom LGA

All the mentioned killings were carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen who are bent on unleashing mayhem on innocent people.

We therefore call on the State government to come to the aid of the people with the needed relief materials.

We further admonish the Federal Government to show the political will towards ensuring that these attacks are stemmed while attackers are made to face the full wrath of the law.
This attacks and killings have continued unabated, and the Federal government continuous silence is sending a very unpleasant signal to the people.

Our villages and people are no longer safe and cannot go about their lawful economic activities without being constantly attacked, killed, harassed and raped in some cases.

We call on the National Assembly to enact a law on State Policing which we believe will strengthen the States to confront their security challenges.

We call on the security operatives to be more proactive, swift and professional in their engagements in order to repel and arrest the attackers.

Our people must be more vigilant, security conscious, avoid night movements and report strange persons to the security personnel.

The incessant attacks are indication that no place is safe if measures are not put in place to curb the attacks and prosecute the attackers to serve as deterrent to others.
The way and manner the herdsmen carry dangerous weapons while rearing their cattle must be checked and possible arrest made. This is because they use such weapons on their victims at will without any provocation.

Security is a collective business without which no economic growth and national development can be attained.

Thank you so very much and God bless
