In a separate development, gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked Babayo-Zarazong village in Jos East Local Government Area, killing two persons and razing down entire settlements. In the mayhem, up to 16 houses were said to have been razed down with several people displaced from their homes.
Commenting on the attack, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP Abu Emmanuel, confirmed that there was an attack in Shendam and some persons were killed. He, however, said that the exact figure of the number of people killed had not yet been made available to him.
Several eyewitnesses on ground in Shendam confirmed that the gunmen came in their numbers, heavily armed with dangerous weapons, started shooting sporadically and burning down houses in the early hours of Monday.
At the time of filing this report, no arrests had been made, however security forces had been deployed to the area and relative calm had return, even though scores of people remain displaced with several of these seeking to leave the area because of the fear of further attacks.
