News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that an umbrella group under the auspices of the All Progressives Congress, tagged the APC Integrity Group, consisting of youths and women in Plateau State has unananimously supported the National Secretariat of the APC over the annulment of the election of Latep Dabang as APC Chairman of Plateau State.

It would be recalled that last week, the National Secretariat of APC upheld the election of Hon. Amos Gombi as the authentic chairman of the party, because of claims that Hon. Letep Dabang was still a member of the LP party at the time of elections –a claim which Hon Letep Dabang has already come out to deny vehemently, saying he had already resigned his membership of the LP, before the APC state congress.

In a press statement signed by the group chairman and made available to newsmen, Hon. Godwin B. Audu, the former Chairman Langtang South and the group’s secretarty Alh. Adamu Jeje, expressed support to the state leadership of the APC under Gombi.

Excerpts of the statement read: “We have analysed the purported defence put forward by Hon. Latep Dabang as contained in the documents submitted to the National Chairman on the June 4, 2014 and observed that Latep Dabang’s letter of resignation is inconsistent with the date of the last local government election as released by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC).

“Of note is the claim that he claimed to have resigned on November 21, 2013 to contest the local government election on February 25, 2014, when the election as at that time was slated for December 7, 2013 and was subsequently shifted to December 21, 2013 and later to January 30, 2014, before it was again shifted to February 25, 2014 and ask, if really Dabang resigned on November 21, 2013, how did he envisage this change in dates?

Like the PDP in Plateau state, the APC has witnessed tumultuous times lately, in its leadership with severe bickering between the major stakeholders in the state. Many political analysts portend that APC may not have much chance in the Gubernatorial elections in the state, except where there is a seismic shift in PDP, where an unpopular Gubernatorial candidate is selected.
