          According to the report, the crisis began on Tuesday afternoon following a dispute between two parties over digging of a ditch across the Jos-Bauchi road that would always serve as a bump to reduce the speed by motorists.

          Some witnesses who were present during the crisis said that digging of a ditch was the cause of the clash. A party in the clash complained that digging of the ditch is causing serious accident which the other party disagreed. “What happened was one Ismaila Hassan Maidawa was riding a motorcycle and unfortunately in his attempt to dodge the ditch a car passing by knocked him down and died at the spot.

 
          He added that, “When his relatives accompanied by some youth went to pick the body of the deceased, they tried to refill the ditch but the other group rejected the move and began to throw stones at them and before you know everything turned to religious crisis,” he added.

          Confirming the incident, the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Abu said youths from Christian and Muslim groups around Babale burnt five houses and a car following an accident that claimed two lives.
