CONDOLENCE MESSAGE TO GOVERNOR ORTOM, BENUE PEOPLE AND ALL NIGERIANS
I wish to commiserate with the Executive Governor of Benue State, Chief Dr. Samuel Ioraer Ortom, the good people of Food Basket of the Nation and all Nigerians affected in one way or the other over the inhuman and irrational killings in Benue State and other States in Nigeria.
At this critical and trying times, I call on all peace-loving people of Benue State, North Central and Nigeria to rally round the Governor to encourage and support him in the best possible ways to overcome the insecurity and other forms of injustices bedevilling his State.
I wish to condemn the attacks and killings in strong terms.
Let me also remind the Federal Government to wake up to its cardinal responsibilities and duties of protecting lives and property of the citizens as well as the territorial integrity from both internal and external aggression.
The federal government has not demonstrated enough will power towards curbing the insecurity bedevilling Benue State, North Central and other States as dozens of people are being killed on daily basis with no single arrest or prosecution to serve as deterrent to others.
As a stakeholder in the North Central, I wish to commend and appreciate Governor Samuel Ortom for his resilience and resolve to doing the wish of his people. That is what leadership entails, knowing the progressive needs of your people and meeting such needs.
At this juncture, I condemn in the strongest possible terms the statement by Plateau State Governor, Barr. Simon Lalong on Governor Ortom to journalists after his meeting with the President.
His utterances are insensitive, non-empathizing, undiplomatic, careless, regrettable and uncharitable at a time people of the North Central States should be speaking with a united voice against the horrendous attacks meted out on innocent citizens.
At least I have been vindicated when I said Governor Lalong lacks the competence, capacity and charisma required of a leader.
I am calling on Governor Ortom, people of Benue, North Central and Nigerians to ignore the “trainee governor” for his careless outbursts.
In Plateau State, we are being confronted with similar predicament and pray practical, proactive and workable steps will be taken to bring the activities of the monsters to an end.
May the souls of the over 70 persons killed rest in peace and wishing those injured speedy recovery. May God give us the fortitude to bear the great losses of our innocent persons while calling on all good people of North Central and Nigeria to unite to fight the scourge of insurgency.
Kindly accept my condolences and sympathy.
Rt. Hon. George E. Daika
Former Speaker, Plateau House of Assembly
