FG Mops Up “COVID-19 Response Package” Disbursement to Vulnerable Women in Plateau State

In order to cushion the adverse economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the citizens especially the less privileged, the Federal Government is mopping up the disbursement of N20,000 each to 2,100 targeted beneficiaries in Plateau State.

The Target beneficiaries who are mostly vulnerable Women were seen being captured and the cash disbursed to them in Jos.

When contacted for more insights on the intervention, Dr (Mrs) Sumaye Hamza, the Executive Assistant to the Governor of Plateau State and the Focal Person Plateau State Social Investment Programme (SIP) said the intervention tagged “COVID-19 Response Package” was aimed at reducing the hardship being faced by the vulnerable in the State with emphasis on Women.
She said the rural Women grant is an initiative of the Federal Government which the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in his magnanimity thought it wise to get people out of the adverse effect of COVID-19 Pandemic.

She stressed that the intervention which is a grant of N20,000 (twenty thousand Naira Only) per woman is expected to give the women folks the opportunity to invest reasonably in order to enhance their wellbeing.

This intervention according to Dr. Sumaye is a mop up of the 2020 exercise while the 2021 intervention is being awaited.
She hinted that all stakeholders were fully involved in the exercise which made it transparent and all-inclusive. She said beneficiaries were drawn from all the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.
She lauded the Federal Government for the initiative and its commitment to reducing poverty in Nigeria.

Asabe Samson Dusu of Gura Top Jos South LGAMonica Ezra from Kabwir Kanke LGA, Mary Yohanna from B/Ladi LGA and Zainab Usman from Nasarawa Gwong Jos North LGA who couldn’t hide their joy appreciated the Federal Government for identifying with them and assisting them with the funds saying they will use the funds to get fertilizer for the farming season, pay the school fees of their children and invest in their businesses as petty traders.

The Senior Legislative Aide to the Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi the Member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, Pharm. Mizim Haruna Dagung lauded the initiative adjudging it as transparent and of greater impact which he said will stimulate economic growth.
He said the funds will assist the women and have direct impact on lives.
