Four private companies are to partner with the government of Plateau State in the reconstruction of Jos main market which was destroyed by fire in 2002. The four companies were selected among the twelve companies that bidded for the project when it was advertised by the state government.

Governor Simon Lalong said his administration has prioritise the project for immediate implementation. Chairman of the project implementation unit, Ezekiel Gomos, unveiled the companies in his office on Friday.

“The re-construction of the market which was the best of its kind in the whole of West Africa, is one of the success stories of the Governor Simon Lalong’s administration. These four companies will be presented to the governor soon for the commencement of the rebuilding processes.

“When we advertised the project, twelve companies showed interest and bided. We selected the best four to execute the project. The selected company would now be given one month to submit their technical and financial proposals on how they intend to carry out the re-construction of the burnt market, as well the financial implication and duration of the project,” he said.

He added that the re-construction of the burnt market would boost the tourism potentials of the state, improve revenue generation and enhance the security of the central business area of the state capital.
