Solomon Chollom, PhD
Four communities in three Local Government Areas of Plateau State namely: Sot in Vwang district and Kumbuna in Kuru district of Jos South Local Government Area, Tapo-Kabong in Heipang district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and Wereng in Wereng district of Riyom Local Government Area are today in cloud nine following the sinking of boreholes in the communities by Operation Blessing, the humanitarian arm of the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN).
Head of CBN Humanitarian Services, Rev. John Kalma, who monitored the execution of the projects said the intervention became necessary in view of the hardship the people face in accessing clean and hygienic water. He added that humans must have access to portable water irrespective of the season of the year in view of the indispensability of water in domestic, personal and community health.
Rev. Kalma also said that the intervention is a prelude to many more that are coming through a collaboration that the organization is forging with His Royal Majesty, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba to address some humanitarian needs in Berom land.
Our correspondent learnt that the projects are set for commissioning by the week 9th – 14th December, 2019.
Expressing their joy, residents of the benefiting communities were lost for words in appreciating Christian Broadcasting Network, Africa for the gesture, saying that they could not believe their sudden turn of fortunes from a very unlikely source, after waiting in vain for politicians to fulfil their promises.
Also speaking, the President of National Union of Berom Students (NUBES), University of Jos Chapter, Nyako Davou Ezekiel, who is a resident of one of the benefiting communities said he is moved by CBN’s show of goodwill. He further promised that NUBES will mobilize her cultural troupe to entertain guests at the commissioning ceremony aside an award the body has planned to present to CBN’s Operation Blessing for their outstanding humanitarian services in Berom land.
