Residents of a Fulani settlement in Taraba state appear to be blaming Tarok militia from Langtang South for launching a scathing attack on them. The attack was alleged to have occurred on Sunday evening in Tapga village in Dampar ward of Ibi Local Government Council of Taraba state. The attackers were said to have invaded the village at approximately 6pm, causing residents to flee into bushes –they then burnt down houses and destroyed property worth millions of Naira.

The true identity of the attackers remains unknown, but district head of the village Mallam Ayuba Mai appears to be pointing accusing fingers at ethnic Tarok militia from Langtang South LGA. Speaking to BBC Hausa service, he said the attackers turned up with sophisticated weapons and started shooting at residents, who were forced to flee for their lives. He then alleged that up to 100 houses have been completely razed down and that the entire area currently lies in ruins.

Chairman of Ibi local government Alhaji Isiaka Adamu confirmed the incident to journalist on phone, he explained that the attackers burnt down almost all the houses in the village and carted away their property. He however confirmed that no individuals lost their lives during the attack.

It would be recalled that in the recent past, the Tarok community in Langtang South have themselves come under severe attack from Fulani militia from Taraba state and several people were said to have lost their lives during these incidents.
