Birthdays are special days celebrated to commemorate the day an individual was born to the World and to celebrate one’s present attainment of a given age of his/her life.
It is in the same light that the Executive Assistant to the Governor of Plateau State and the Focal Person Plateau State Social Investment Programme (SIP), Mrs. Hamza Sumaye Ph.D deemed it fit to commemorate the day she was born with people she considered as “special persons” who she holds so dear to her heart.
On the visit to the destitutes at Jos Central Mosque Jos North LGA, the Celebrant, Dr. Sumaye Hamza distributed food, snacks and drinks to hundreds of the persons with certain forms of disabilities; some lame, deaf, dumb, blind, the aged etc, who are extremely poor and lacking the means to provide for themselves.
Dr. Sumaye who couldn’t hide her emotion on account of the conditions of the people said she is always touched by the predicament of the target group and said she is fulfilled celebrating her birthday with them.
“I chose to celebrate with them because their is no point celebrating and eating with those who already have”
“There is need to have a feel of those who are in need” she hinted when asked why she decided to spend her day with the less privileged and homeless.
She said the target group consist of persons who need food and approaching them with such assistance when they least expected is rewarding.
She sympathized with them and said there is need for them to be rehabilitated considering the challenges they are going through.
Dr. Sumaye said she is accustomed to feeding at least 50 persons all through the fasting period.
While at the Central Mosque Jos, the celebrant spotted a girl who she said she will love to train and empower educationally if the parents will agree to that.
She said she had trained a young in the past through Islamiyya School who is now an Architecture Graduate and has undergone the compulsory one Year National Youth Service Scheme.
She said her intention is to do more with the little resources God has blessed her with.
The gesture was to put smiles on the faces of the target group, rekindle their hope and give them sense of belonging in the society.
She called for interventions by government at all levels and spirited individuals to address the challenges being faced by the target persons.
In his remark, the Divisional Secretary Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) Aid Group Jos North LGA, Mr. Musbahu Usman lauded the humanitarian gesture of the celebrant and for identifying with the less privileged.
He commended her for always assisting the needy especially the physically challenged who were given wheelchairs through her kind gesture.
He prayed God to preserve her, bless her with long life and provide her with the resources to do more.
The beneficiaries who couldn’t hide their joy appreciated the Celebrant for the gesture and pray God to reward her immensely. They described her as a Mother who is ready to sacrifice to ensure other people fulfilled.
