The remains of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Duncan Group of Companies, Dr Godfrey Bawa Shitgurum has been laid to rest in his country home in Kwande, Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The philanthropist and industrialist, who was also a gubernatorial aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party , PDP, in the 2019 general elections in Plateau State, died at the age of 68.
Bawa was laid to rest at the premises of the Peter Bawa and Anna Memorial Hospital, a project he built for his community and named after his parents.
In his homily, the Vicar General, Catholic Archdiocese of Jos Monsignor Cletus Gotan, at the funeral Mass at St. John Mary Vianney Catholic Church, Kwande; urged wealthy Nigerians to use their resources in assisting the less privileged as well as develop their communities.
Monsignor Gotan, charged Christians to be ready for death, which he said comes like a thief without any notice, and tasked Nigerians not to keep grudges with one another.
He applauded the contributions of Dr Godfrey Bawa Shitgurum to the community and the Church.
The Funeral Mass, was full to capacity with family members, friends, well wishers who came to pay their last respect to a man many referred to as a giver who dedicated his life to serving God and Humanity.
The former Governor of Plateau State and now Senator Simon Lalong and immediate past Director General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Sir Joseph Ari described the late Industrialist as some one who contributed greatly to the development of his community and the Church of God.
In the same vein, Dr Chris Maiyaki of the National Universities Commission and a relative of the deceased and former Minister of Women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen eulogized Dr Bawa, who they said was committed to serving humanity.
The Funeral Mass drew a cream of dignitaries among them Members of the State and National Assemblies, Traditional and Religious leaders across the Country and business partners of the deceased, within and outside the Nigeria.
