Dr. Fabong Jemchang Assure Citizens of PLASCHEMA’s Commitment to Achieving Universal Health Coverage in Plateau State

The Director General of the Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (PLASCHEMA), Dr. Fabong Jemchang has reassured the citizens of the commitment of the agency to achieving universal health coverage in Plateau State.
He said this during the Domestic Resource Mobilization Parley for the Plateau State Social Health Insurance Informal Sector engagement which held on Friday 11th March, 2022 at Crispan Hotel Jos, the Plateau State Capital.

While outlining the overview, achievements, challenges and opportunities that abound for the agency, he said “it is stated that poverty magnifies the need for health care while shrinking the capacity to access same”
He said the poorer a person is, the less likely the person has the capacity to access health care and the more likelihood for the person to fall sick.
He said having served as the the Head of the Critical Emergencies Department of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, he was able to witnessed how persons died for lack of as low as a thousand naira to access health care.

He said attaining universal health coverage without insurance is impossible.

He hinted that the agency serves to pool together resources and through strategic purchasing, reduce to the barest minimum the catastrophic out of pocket spendings to guarantee access and equity in healthcare delivery to residents on the Plateau irrespective of their political affiliations, tribes, religious and socio-economic status.
He said most Countries has achieved universal health coverage through social health insurance and said the agency is leaving no stone unturned to mobilize both the formal and informal sectors so that a more healthier State is attained which in turn will translate to a more prosperous State.

He lauded Governor Simon Lalong for establishing the agency to promote access to quality, equitable and affordable healthcare to all Residents on the Plateau without financial hardship.

Chief Convener of the Event, Gov. Simon Lalong who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof. Danladi Atu lauded the initiative of the agency and for ensuring that the non formal sector is fully mobilized to have access to quality and affordable healthcare services in the State.
He reiterated government commitment to accord greater priority to the health sector on account of its importance.

President of Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives (PIDAN), Prof. Aboi Madaki commended PLASCHEMA for ensuring that quality healthcare services are delivered to the Citizens of Plateau State and said the sustainability of the scheme should attract the buy-in of the citizens of the State.

The Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Idris Ahmed who was the Chief Resource Mobilizer while lauding the efforts of PLASCHEMA for ensuring the informal sector which constitutes the majority of the population are not left behind in the scheme.

Plateau State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Nimkong Ndam said the State government is not resting but working assiduously to ensure there is significant improvement in healthcare service delivery.

The event also feature presentation of Awards to deserving Local Government Coordinators of the Basic Health Care Fund Provision (BHCFP) with Cmr. Solomon Pam from Riyom emerging the best.
Cmr. Solomon appreciated PLASCHEMA for finding him worthy and said the Award will spur him to do more. He called on the public to embrace the scheme so they can enjoy more healthier and productive lives.

The event was well attended by Chief of Staff to the Governor of Plates State Chief Noel Donjur, Statistician General of the Federation Mr. Simon Harry, DG Plateau State Information & Communication Technology Development Agency Mr. David Daser, Dr. Haggai Gutap the Technical Administrative Head of the State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (CARES), Mr. Wuyep Bomkam Ali DG Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA), other top Government Functionaries, illustrious sons and daughters of the State.
