President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the long-awaited Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021 into law. The President signed the amendment bill into law around 12:25pm at a brief epoch making ceremony witnessed by Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila of the House of Representatives, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and his Chief of Staff (CoS) Professor Ibrahim Gambari, among others.

Following this development, Philanthropist and leading contender for Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr Elkanah Garang has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for assenting to the electoral amendment act 2021 and also expressed appreciation to the National Assembly for including the smart card reader and other technologies.

In a statement issued exclusively to NigerStarNewsBlog, Dr Elkanah Garang noted that the introduction of smart card readers and other forms of technologies will go a long way in bringing sanity in the electoral process, thereby curtailing to a large extent electoral fraud during general elections.

Dr Garang stressed that the need to incorporate modern technologies, hence the inclusion of smart card readers and other modern technologies in an indication that Nigeria is indeed matching words with actions in the drive for better electoral reforms, describing the development as a step in the right direction.

In closing, Dr Garang commended President Muhammadu Buhari for giving Nigeria’s confidence in the electoral process by assenting to the Electoral Amendment Bill 2021. He used the opportunity to call on all young Nigerians of age 18 years and above to come out in their numbers and register to get their permanent voters card (PVC) in order to give youths the opportunity to make their voices heard in 2023 by voting the right leaders what will restore the fortunes of Nigeria.
