A Philanthropist and community mobiliser, Dr Elkanah Garang has continued to contribute to rural development in Plateau State. The Philanthropist who only recently renovated and restored water supply at the Cottage Hospital Bokkos and donated hospital equipments to a Primary Health Care Centre has again reached out to rural communities in his hometown. Dr Elkanah made cash donation as well as one thousand notebooks to the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau. The books according to him are expected to be distributed to student and pupils in the LGA as a token support to education. Receiving the items, Hon Christopher Audu Rafan, a former Special Adviser to the Plateau State Governor expressed his gratitude on behalf of the association and coordinated the distribution of the materials.
At Ambul Bargesh ward, Dr Elkanah complimented the effort of the councilor by funding the construction of two culverts as part of effort to make the road linking communities motorable to improve access to basic services and ease the transportation of farm produce.
Marish community in Kwatas ward witnessed his kind gesture as their only source of portable drinking water was revamped. Women and Youths of the Community openly expressed gratitude to the Philanthropist who has brought an end to their suffering. One of the women in the community, Mrs Esther Musa, who spoke on behalf of others could not hide her joy. She noted that prior to the intervention by Dr Elkanah Garang, they had to travel long distances and struggle with cattle before collecting unsafe stream water to use for house chores and consumption.
Dr Elkanah Garang has so far contributed immensely to the development of bokkos and has remained resolute in directly impacting the lives of people in rural plateau and beyond. His philanthropic gestures have reached rural hinterland communities in Gombe, Katsina, Kaduna and Kano State all located in Nigeria’s North East and North West regions respectively.
