The Plateau AIDS control agency (PLACA) takes a new dimension as new leadership emerges for the agency. In a meeting chaired by the new Executive director of the agency, Mrs. Esther Turaki posits that the present leadership is result oriented aiming at fighting to reduce the spread of H.I.V and AIDS in the state by making sure people are tested especially pregnant and breast feeding women.
While welcoming participants at the meeting of PLACA management, LACA program managers from across the 17 LGAs and the HIV program officers of the 4 line ministries in the State, the Executive director expressed confidence on the “The Time is now” MANTRA of his Excellency Gov. Caleb M. Mutfwang, and assured the participants of the commitment of the Governor to the welfare of the people of the state and appreciated the Governor for making PLACA rise again and for raising the hope of stakeholders in achieving a HIV Free generation come 2030.
The Executive director explained that the focus of PLACA present leadership is to strengthen multi-sectoral coordination and collaboration with key stakeholders in the fight against the deadly virus (AIDS).
Other areas of focus according to the Executive Director are:
i. Stigma and discrimination including Gender Based- violence and other Human Rights related issues.
ii. Prevention/PMTCT and key Population programming.
iii. Getting the State data right
iv. And leveraging on Business Models to advance ownership and sustainability of the State HIV response.
She stated that the agency has set goals to achieve from 2024 – 2027 in line with the current National Strategic and the State strategic plan.
Speaking at the event the Director, Monitoring and Evaluation of the agency, Wukatda Wokji Beben explained that the prevalence rate of HIV infection in the State is 1.6% and over 43 thousand people are currently receiving treatment in 29 APIN supported comprehensive Health facilities spread across the state. The Executive director emphasized that the target of the organization is to provide HIV testing services to 352,968 people annually with the target of 29,414 monthly.
Participants in the meeting expressed happiness and confidence in the leadership of the new executive director and the Executive Governor of Plateau State,Gov. CALEB MANASSEH MUTFWANG stating that the agency and the implementation team were neglected for years leading to the increase of the spread of the virus. They pledged allegiance to the leadership and the The Time is Now Mantra of Gov. Caleb M. Mutfwang.
In conclusion the Executive director admonished the AIDS implementation team to be good ambassadors of the agency and the administration.
