COVID-19 Updates: Plateau State Gets an Accredited Laboratory for COVID-19 Diagnostic Testing

With over 1.7 million total cases index and over 110,000 deaths recorded globally, the Coronavirus has continue to ravage the world and presenting untold hardship to the people all over the World

It has brought economic, social, religious and most political activities to a standstill.

The world is battling to halt the spread and contain existing cases.

Nigeria is not left out of Nations putting in place measures to stem the virus.

Plateau State though without any case on its part has continued to come up with sound and proactive measures to prevent spread or contain the disease should there be any outbreak.

Today, the Plateau State COVID-19 Situation Room announced to the public of the approval of National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) as an accredited Laboratory for COVID-19 diagnostic testing by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)

This was contained in the twitter handle of the situation room as shown below:

“We are pleased to announce that the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), VOM is now an accredited Laboratory for #COVID19 diagnostic testing”

To confirm this, the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) also tweeted:

“National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), VOM, now an accredited Laboratory for COVID – 19 diagnostic testing.

Two new labs have been activated for #COVID19 testing Aminu Kano Traching Hospital Influenza Laboratory, Kano & at National Vetrinary Research Institute, , Plateau State

This brings the number of COVID-19 testing labs in Nigeria to 11

In progress- Maiduguri, Sokoto, Port Harcourt & Kaduna”

Plateau State was without a diagnostic testing centre for COVID-19 and there has been public outcry on the need for one.

All thanks to NCDC for fulfilling its promise of establishing a testing centre in Plateau State.

With this, Nigeria now has 11 accredited Laboratory Diagnostic Testing Centres for COVID-19.
