COVID-19: COMRADE STEPHANIE PAM DONATE PALLIATIVES TO NIGERIAN STUDENTS IN NORTH CYPRUS

In her quest to contribute to the global effort at preventing COVID-19 pandemic from destroying the lives and livelihood of society’s poorest and most vulnerable, Comrade Stephanie Mafeng Pam, a 400 level Aeronautic Engineering student of the University of Kyrenia, Cyprus has donated cash and assorted food items to Nigeria students in North Cyprus.

Presenting the cash and food items in the Directorate Office of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Turkish Zone at the Kyrenia University, North Cyprus, Turkey, Comrade Stephanie Pam who is the President of African Students Association, Kyrenia University said the gesture was aimed at responding to the challenges foreign students of African extraction in Cyprus are facing amidst the novel Coronavirus pandemic.

According to the indefatigable Students Unionist, “It’s been difficult for some students during this period because they either couldn’t receive money from home due to lockdown in their Nigeria and at some points, Nigerian ATM cards stopped working here in Cyprus. There are some Students who worked daily to earn money for survival but with the lockdown, they were stranded.

“In the midst of the situation, the North Cyprus Government openly stated that they wouldn’t be providing support for foreign students, although schools are closed, classes continued online. It has been challenging.”

Pam maintained, “As I speak with you now, Nigerian students, particularly indigenes of Plateau State are living in a pitiable condition in Cyprus.

Some States Governments in Nigeria have responded to the challenge by sending palliatives to their students studying here.

What we donated went far to cushion the effects of the pandemic within the students community but Plateau students in particular are still in dare need of assistance as most of them can barely afford food and other basic necessities of life as a result of lockdown and other restrictions placed to curb the spread of the virus.

She passionately appealed to Plateau State Government, corporate organizations and public spirited individuals in the state to come to the aid of the students as coronavirus pandemic continues to devastate lives and wreak havoc on livelihood across the globe.

The Comrade appreciated her fellow African students and parents, Dr. Steven Pam and Pharmacist Kaneng Pam who according to her have remained supportive of her students’ union activities, stressing that such supports have always spur her to be more committed to the advancement of the welfare of students in particular and humanity at large.
