With cases of coronavirus in Nigeria continue to increase day with total cases at 210, active cases now 181 and 4 deaths recorded so far, the Management Committee Chairman Riyom Local Government Council, Hon. Mafeng Gwallson has reiterated the need for the people in the area to takes seriously all safety, preventive and precautionary measures to fight COVID-19 which he described as a global threat to public health and human existence.
Hon. Gwallson said Riyom LGC has activated sound, workable and proactive measures to prevent the dreaded disease.
He said the Local Government Council has domesticated all State Government directives and also put up its own measures to ensure COVID-19 is addressed holistically.
He spoke on the screening being conducted at the two entry points of the Area to enhance a Plateau State free of COVID-19.
He posited that he is impressed at the level of awareness and orientation of the people in the area and how they are cooperating with government directives and reporting suspicious cases.
He said with over 800,000 active cases and over 60,000 deaths recorded globally, he is working tirelessly to prevent the virus putting into account that even developed Countries are battling hard to contain the virus.
Hon. Gwallson said the Local Government COVID-19 Taskforce is working round the clock and liaising with the security agencies to enforce compliance to all directives and health practitioners in case of any possible case. He said Riyom LGA has not recorded any case of COVID-19 and thank the people for isolating and reporting their relatives coming from States with confirmed cases for possible screening and test.
He appreciated the people for their understanding calling on them to be more cautious being at the gateway of the State and other Northern States.
He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the people in the locality.
“We have distributed Hand sanitizers, liquid hand washing soap and water buckets used for washing hands”
“We have engaged our locals and distributed flyers and materials that will increase their awareness about the disease”
“We have shared preventive items to all the Wards through the Councillors who are to distribute to places of worship and other places that are critical” he said.
He admonished the people to practice good personal hygiene, avoid unnecessary movements, maintain social distancing, don’t shake hands, make sure the wash their hands frequently with soap using running water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers and make sure they report any suspected case.
The Council Boss promised to give the much needed attention to the health and social welfare of the people at this critical. He said Riyom LGA having citizens who are predominantly farmers, the Council has put up measures to see how perishable farm produce are sold in order for farmers not to be at loss.
