COVID-19: Plateau State has Conducted 14,816 Samples Test, 982 Returned Positive

Jos – The Chairman of Plateau State Taskforce on COVID-18 and the Executive Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has said so far the State has tested a total of 14,816 cumulative samples out of which 982 returned positive having received 10,922 results while 3,894 test results are pending.

The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof. Danladi Atu made this known in a brief briefing today Tuesday 28th July, 2020.

He said the State has been given sample collection target of 87,000 which connotes the State is testing about 485 persons per day.

The State Governor said efforts have been made to increase COVID-19 Testing facilities in the State and posited that the State now has 3 testing centres located at NVRI Vom, Plateau State Specialist Hospital and Jos University Teaching Hospital.

He disclosed that 454 COVID-19 Patients are on isolation in the centres across the State (Riyom General Hospital 18, JUTH 64, PSSH 70, BHUTH 7 while 145 patients are on home management), 446 Patients discharged while 19 deaths have been recorded so far.

He said 58 Health Workers were affected by the disease. He posited that 174 civil servants in the State tested positive for the virus from the 4,422 tests conducted so far.

He made clarification on the 148 cases recorded on Monday 27th July, 2020 saying the figure represented accumulated results on account of shortage of reagents at the NVRI Laboratory in Vom. He said they didn’t represent the results of a single day.

He charged the citizens in the State to take personal responsibility for their health and that of others.
