As the world continue to battle with the global outbreak of COVID-19 Pandemic that has infected over 1.8 persons and killing over 115,000, Nations have continued to deploy measures aimed at both preventing and containing the ugly tide.
In Plateau State, the State government has imposed a total lockdown from Thursday Midnight 9th to Wednesday 15th April, 2020.
The Management Committee Chairman of Jos North LGC, Hon. Shehu Bala Usman while responding to Online Media Reporters monitoring compliance lauded the citizens for the level of compliance with the lockdown order by the State Government.
Hon. Shehu attributed the compliance level to the people who he said were engaged and have seen reason to comply to prevent spread of COVID-19. He commended the people for their profound understanding in this trying moment.
Hon. Shehu said the fight against COVID-19 is a collective one and commended the people in the area for joining the fight against the scourge.
He also thanked the security agencies for enforcing compliance in the Area. He lauded the joint efforts of the Nigerian Police, NSCDC, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Neighbourhood Watch and the anti-Sara Suka group in the Local Government Area.
He further charged the security to ensure lives & property are secured within and beyond the lockdown period. He said shops of businessmen/women should be well secured and protected.
He said the Coronavirus does not move itself, rather people move and spread it around. He admonished the people to stay at home comply with all preventive, safety and precautionary measures advised by Health Experts as well as government directives which are for public health, safety and security.
He said despite lean resources, the Council provided palliatives such as food items and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the vulnerable citizens to cushion the economic effect of the lockdown order and COVID-19 Pandemic. He posited that the welfare and security of the people remain his priority.
He said the Local Government Council will complement the effort of the State government to improve and extend the fumigation to ensure that areas not reached are given the needed attention.
He commended the Executive Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong for the lockdown and fumigation exercise which he said are some of the proactive steps taken to reduce to a large extend exposure to COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.
The Chairman made these disclosures when he visited security points in the area ensuring compliance to the lockdown order.
