The Lockdown order imposed by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong to prevent the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 Pandemic and fumigate the State in his State broadcast on Monday 6th April, 2020 recorded remarkable and landmark compliance on the commencement day.
Gov. Lalong flagged off the fumigation exercise at the Terminus roundabout where he disclosed that the State Government has taken several steps aimed at ensuring that the disease does not come into the State.
He said the State is preparing in the unfortunate event if any case is recorded so that it can respond to it appropriate.
He went further to say though no case has been recorded in the State, there is need not to relax but to remain vigilant and proactive all the time.
Gov. Lalong posited that the difficult and unusual times are not for only for the State but the World at large. He urged the people to pray to God and remain steadfast.
While monitoring compliance, our team visited Ahmadu Bello Way Jos, the Terminus Market Area, Angwan Rukuba, Dilimi, Nasarawa Gwong, Bauchi Road, Angwan Rogo, Tudun Wada, Kabong all in Jos North LGA.
Jos South, Riyom and Barkin Ladi LGAs were also visited.
In all the places visited, the level of compliance was impressive excepted for few arrest of violators of the lockdown order who were convicted and penalized to serve as deterrent to others.
Streets were deserted and all shops were locked indicating high level of sensitization to the public on the lockdown order.
Infractions to the order were also noticed among herdsmen who were seen rearing their cattle thereby violating the lockdown order. Farmers decried indiscriminate grazing by cattle herder saying their crops are exposed to danger if enforcement of compliance is not extended to marauding herders since they are home but see cattle grazing on their crops.
There are over 1.6 total cases of the coronavirus and over 100,000 deaths recorded globally with Nigeria having 288 total cases and 7 deaths from that global index.
