Plateau State – As the world continue to battle to overcome the deadly COVID-19, with over 1.2 million total cases and over 64,000 deaths recorded globally, the Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council in Plateau State, Hon. Joshua Laven Ubandoma, Ph.D has made good his promise of donating his March, 2020 Salary to the Langtang North COVID- 19 Appeal Fund Committee as his personal contribution to the fight against the novel coronavirus in the Local Government Area.
With total cases in Nigeria put at 214 and 4 deaths recorded so far, all levels of government are making concerted effort to prevent and contain the virus.
Though Plateau State is yet to record a case, it is imperative to put measures on ground to mitigate the scourge.
Hon. Joshua Laven Ubandoma, Ph.D while handing over the salary to the Committee said the gesture is borne out of his desire towards the fight against the disease. He said looking at the devastating effect of the virus globally, there is need to take every necessary step to prevent and contain same should there be any possible outbreak.
Dr. Laven has inaugurated the Council Taskforce on COVID-19, stepped down State Government’s directives and fumigated the Local Government Hqtrs and other communities in the Council.
He has also engaged the Locals on awareness campaign on COVID-19, distributed hand sanitizers, liquid washing soaps, hand washing water thanks and flyers to the people across the Local Government Area.
He disclosed that the Council is aware of the hardships being experienced by the citizens in the area and working towards providing succour to the people. He said funds to be realized through donations into the COVID- 19 Appeal Fund will be used alongside that of the Council to provide palliative to the people.
He charged the people to adhere strictly to all preventive guides and government directives aimed at preventing and containing the global threat posed by the scourge.
He said measures have been put in place to ensure full compliance with all government directives in the area and sanction defaulters.
He admonished the people to stay at home, avoid unnecessary movements, report people coming into the Area from States with confirmed cases for appropriate attention, wash their hands regularly using soap with running water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers, avoid shaking of hands, stop touching their eyes/mouth/nose, maintain high level of personal/respiratory hygiene and ensure any suspected case is reported prompted to the appropriate health authority for needed action.
He said though the times may be hard, the people should understand and do what is expected of them to curtail the spread of the virus.
He said total compliance with measures and directives in place will ensure a Langtang North free of COVID-19.
