As Nigeria continue the battle to contain and prevent the spread of the deadly COVID-29, with 151 total cases recorded in the Country, the Plateau State Government reaffirmed that the State has not recorded any positive case so far.
Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof. Danladi Abok Atu who doubles as the coordinating Secretary, Plateau Taskforce on COVID-19 Emergency Response made this known at a Press Briefing at the Old Government House Jos, Plateau State today Wednesday 1st April, 2020.
He said though suspected samples were taken for examination, non was positive so far.
Prof. Atu said the State Government will continue the enforcement of regulations earlier issued and urged the people to comply fully.
Prof. Atu posited that though there is substantial compliance, government is working to ensure total compliance.
He expressed displeasure over the attitude of transport operators who are yet to fully comply as they still carry passengers as they previously did. He said government will engage them again to issue them last warning in that regard.
He said religious organisations that flouted the order for gathering exceeding 50 persons last week were invited by security agencies and have apologized as well as made undertaken not to violate government directives again.
He said there is enhanced sensitization particularly at the grassroot level as stakeholders across all sectors are engaged.
He commended the Local Government Areas for keying into the work of the State Taskforce and replicating same in terms of sensitization and enforcement.
He spoke on how the State is carrying out preliminary examinations at the border entry points to ensure all passengers undergo temperature assessments which he said so far is good.
He said based on the assessment of the situation in the State, the Chairman of the Plateau State COVID-19 Taskforce, His Excellency Governor Simon Lalong has directed the closure of all entry and exit routes to Plateau State with effect from 6am Thursday 2nd April, 2020. He said no one will be allowed to come in or leave the State.
The SGS posited that as part of the enforcement of gathering for not more than 50 people especially during religious activities, any group found violating the directive will have its place of worship shut down outrightly. He said the 2 meters distancing should be adhered to if gathering of maximum of 50 persons is to be held and went further to direct such places to provide water and sanitizers at entrances.
He stressed the need for traders of food items to henceforth maintain 5 meters distance directive.
He concluded by saying the State Government has established Plateau State COVID-19 Support Fund, an account being operated by UBA PLC which donated N28.5 million. He called on corporate organisations and well spirited individuals to contribute to the Account Number 1022751747
