Due to the exposure of security personnel enforcing compliance with the total Lockdown directive at Checkpoints across Jos/Bukuru, a Non-governmental Organisation whose core mandate is addressing issues of the downtrodden women, Hope Initiative for Women in Africa (HIWA) has distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as Facemasks and Hand Sanitizers.
In her remarks at all the checkpoint while presenting the items, the President of HIWA, Mrs. Naomi Olorundare lauded the roles played by the various security agencies in ensuring full compliance with the total lockdown order aimed at curtailing spread of the coronavirus and contributing immensely to the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
Mrs. Naomi said their contributions cannot be quantified.
She said being a Health Practitioner, she always meet security personnel to & fro her workplace and noticed most of them were without facemasks or water/soap to wash their hands despite being extremely exposed while discharging their duties of enforcing compliance and that informed her noble gesture of providing them with Facemasks and Hand sanitizers.
She said that is her little way of contributing to the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
She sad as the total Lockdown is being eased, there is need for more preventive measure through use of facemasks, social/physical distancing and other preventive measures.
She said he target are the various Checkpoints in Jos/Bukuru Metropolis manned by volunteers, hunters etc enforcing compliance who she noticed are more exposed.
The distributions started from Rayfield Jos, to Anguldi, Bukuru Express, Dadin Kowa and ended at Zaria Road.
The Philanthropist admonished the security personnel to ensure they are safe and adhere to all preventive measures being at the frontline so as not to contract the virus and later infect their loved ones and others around them.
She called on government at all levels and other well spirited individuals to step in to provide more PPE and palliatives to the unsung heroes who are displaying dedication, commitment and patriotism in the fight against COVID-19.
She said HIWA was established to address poverty, illiteracy and disease of the traumatized community in Africa via skill acquisition, education and health and is ready for any progressive partnership to achieve it mission.
She concluded by charging the general public to adhere to all preventive measures spelt out by health Experts and obey government directives which she said may be difficult but in the best interest of public health.
Heads of the security agencies/outfits at the various checkpoints visited commended HIWA for the humanitarian gesture extended to them saying it is first of its kind.
They promised to put the items to good use and ensure they are safe and secured while enforcing compliance.
While thanking her for the show of love, empathy and concern for their welfare and safety, they prayed God to open more doors so the organization will affect more lives/the society positively while calling on government at all levels, other NGOs and well spirited individuals to emulate the gesture.
