Goodluck Jonathan Foundation has donated relief materials to the Bauchi State Government as palliative to the people of the state.
The foundation, run by former President Goodluck Jonathan, notified the state government of the gesture through a letter addressed to Governor Bala Mohammed.
GJF in the letter dated 12 May, signed by its Executive Director, Ann Iyonu, said the donated palliative was to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on the people of Bauchi State.
“The pandemic presents more than ever, an opportunity for action, solidarity, and patriotism. As stakeholders in nation building, we recognize the need to work together with government to combat this new scourge as government alone would not be able to bear the costs,” the letter read.
It added; “GJF is an independent, non-governmental organization established to promote democratic accountability, peace building, conflict prevention and inclusive governance.
“We hope that this gesture makes a positive difference as we wish you and the good people of Bauchi healing and God’s continual protection in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Food Items donated were 500 Bags of Rice & 500 Bags of Beans.
Bauchi State Government had imposed a total lockdown on Katagum, Giade and Zaki local government areas to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
The state recorded two new cases of the disease on Saturday to take the total number of cases in the northern state to 212, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
Bauchi currently has the fifth highest number of coronavirus cases in the country
