The citizens of Plateau State were hit by the story of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the evening of Thursday 23rd April, 2020.
The carrier who came in from Kano State was said to had contracted the disease but smuggled into the State during the total lockdown and when all border entry points into the State were closed.
While the Executive Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong called for calm after the official confirmation of the index case, the citizens are calling out security personnel at border entry points/checkpoints across the State for compromise and putting the lives of over 3 million persons at risk.
The citizens said security personnel are responsible and to be blamed for the first confirmed cases recorded which may had exposed many other innocent and law abiding persons as they collect money from passengers and motorists allowing them access into the State with the total lockdown period and border closure.
Mixed reactions have also trailed the effectiveness of the closure of all border entry points when people still buy their way into the State thereby contravening government directives.
The citizens have called for more proactive measures and intensified surveillance at border entry points and other checkpoints in the State to curb the incessant influx of persons into the State.
On Thursday 23rd April, 2020, two trucks conveying 43 persons were intercepted around Zarmaganda Roundabout Jos South LGA by the joint effort of the Peace Corps, VGN and Neighbourhood Watch having beaten entry/checkpoints into the State.
Over 30 other arrests were made in the State Capital.
The citizens have called for total overhaul of the security at the border entry points and their replacement with local vigilante groups who they believe are more effective, trusted and will not compromise and expose people in the State to COVID-19.
