The Middle belt Congress (MBC) has denounced the threat by the Arewa Youth Development Foundation (AYDF) to southerners resident in the north to vacate the region within two weeks.
A joint statement signed by Mr. Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf and Barr Nelson Timveh, President and Secretary General of the group respectively stated that the group will not tow the path of Arewa youth foundation as it was a threat to national co-existence.
The statement reads “It has come to our notice that a so called protest embarked on July 17th, 2014 by the Arewa Youth Development Foundation in Kano recently called for the dissolution of Nigeria.”
“We state categorically that this call by them is long overdue and we commend them for their sudden realisation, but may we state however that whereas they have issued a provocative ultimatum for non-northerners to vacate the north in the next two weeks, it’s our call on all southerners based in the middle belt to remain here peacefully in the middle belt including Abuja which is owned by us and they should see same as their home.”
“We value our alliance with the Niger Delta, Ndi-Igbo and our most invaluable neighbours standing with us for justice. May we restate our unflinching support for President Goodluck Jonathan and his government, who himself is a victim of minority oppression.”
The group called on the security agencies to closely watch the activities of Arewa youth development foundation as no loss of life and property of a law abiding Nigeria will be accepted in any part of the country.
