IN line with the newly-introduced presumptive Tax Regime in Plateau State and its policy of improving the revenue base of the state, the State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS) says it would soon introduced electronic data cards for payment of all taxes.

The electronic card, according to PSIRS, would not only make the payment of taxes easier but would also take into account payment of taxes from the informal sector in the state.

Chairman, PSIRS, Mr. Samuel Pam spoke yesterday in Jos when he led the management of the service to pay a courtesy call on the Gbong Gwom, Jos, His Majesty, Elder Jacob Buba in his palace.

Pam disclosed that the electronic cards which would be produced by interswitch” would be in three different categories of classic for net worth class, the premium for the middle class, as well as the regular class.

“When we produce these cards, various companies and corporate entities operating in the state will have them so that they can voluntarily pay their taxes as and when due”, Pam added.

He stated that the introduction of electronic tax system administration in the state through the use of Tax Identification Number, TIN, was beginning to yield the desired results stressing that the service had posted over 4.2 billion naira so far in 2014 as against 3.9 billion in the corresponding period in 2013, even as he maintained that the target of the service was one billion naira monthly.

While enumerating some of the challenges militating against the smooth operations of PSIRS to include shortage of manpower, Mr. Pam however, expressed optimism that the on-going internal re-organization in the service especially the involvement of the informal sector, which he described as the first in northern Nigeria, would soon begin to yield more fruits for the development of the state.

Responding, the Gbong Gwom Jos and chairman, Joint Traditional Council, Plateau State, Elder Jacob Gyang Buba, told them that the traditional institution in the state would co-operate with them in achieving their mandate.

The monarch commended the tax policies of the present administration in the state saying it would go a long way in providing the much needed basic infrastructure in the state stressing that the traditional institution would key into the tax regime.
